New Zealand Law Society - Climate Change Law Committee
The Climate Change Law Committee monitors and makes recommendations on proposed legislative reforms relevant to New Zealand’s climate change commitments and obligations.
The Climate Change Law Committee was established in 2022 to review and comment on new legislation that have climate change implications, working collaboratively with other law reform committees where there are areas of mutual interest and expertise. Climate change law is fast-developing, and we expect the number of legislative and policy initiatives to continue growing, domestically and internationally.
Natasha Garvan is the convenor of the Climate Change Law Committee. Natasha is currently a partner at Bell Gully, practising in the areas of environmental, planning and resource management law. This has included providing legal advice on significant renewable energy and public transport projects, and law reform advice on the Resource Management Act 1991 and Three Waters proposal. She is also Chair of the Auckland branch of the Resource Management Law Association and is a regular contributor to Bell Gully’s The Big Picture: Climate Change series of publications.
