Nelson prosecuted charges show lowest decrease in NZ
Information released by Statistics New Zealand shows that 80.1% of all prosecuted charges in District Courts and the High Court in the Nelson cluster resulted in a conviction in 2011.
This was one of the highest rates for any court cluster, and above the national average of 74.5%.
The diversion rate for the Nelson cluster of 4.0% was below the national average of 4.7%, while 15.5% of charges prosecuted in Nelson were not proved - below the national average of 20.5%.
The information also shows that total prosecuted charges in the Nelson cluster dropped by 1.4% from 2010 to 2011. This was the smallest decrease in New Zealand. Nationally there was a fall of 11.1% in total prosecuted charges from 2010 to 2011.
