Legal Counsel - Auckland

  • Full-time, permanent opportunity
  • Spacious, modern office based in Grafton, Auckland
  • Awesome benefits including paid health insurance, leave plus, flexible working and many more!

We are on the hunt for a personable and quick-witted Legal Counsel with a minimum of 5 years PQE to join our dedicated in-house legal team here at Orion Health!

As Legal Counsel at Orion Health, you will be responsible for using your good judgement and quick thinking to provide legal and commercial advice and negotiation support to internal stakeholders on software and services contracts with customers and suppliers.

There is a focus on the APAC region but this is a multinational business, so you will be exposed to managing legal work in overseas jurisdictions. You will support the Group General Counsel and Associate General Counsel, and will also engage with a variety of internal stakeholders to understand the needs of the business and provide general legal guidance.

Your success in this role will be underpinned by the sound relationships you develop with the teams you work with, and external clients. Our team is very focused on being part of the effort to get deals done on time, whilst managing the risks for the best possible outcomes.

As Orion Health Legal Counsel you will:

  • Draft, negotiate and advise on client technology, licensing and services agreements, and supplier agreements from minor subcontracts through to priming arrangements.
  • Work with our product and marketing teams on software product collateral and documentation.
  • Advise on commercial, corporate, privacy, property and other legal matters as they arise.

What will you bring to the role?

  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years PQE in-house or in private legal practice.
  • Skills: You possess well-developed research skills with the ability to draft agreements, demonstrate sound knowledge of NZ contract and commercial law and ideally have a working knowledge of privacy law. You also have strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with an unwavering ability to present an argument for why/why not, every time.
  • Characteristics: You have a good sense of humour, are resilient and optimistic, un-phased by ambiguity and of course enjoy working at pace on a variety of matters. You are also proactive in nature, jumping at the next task without hesitation.
  • Education: You will have a law degree, admission to the bar, and either hold an NZ practising certificate or be able to obtain one within a month of commencing in the role.

What’s in it for you?

  • Your (Orion) health is very important to us. We have teamed up with Southern Cross to provide you with fully covered health insurance, on us!
  • Used up your annual leave but have yet another wedding to get to this summer? Or how about the kids' cross country event you miss every year? Don't let an empty leave balance stop you. We offer our Orionites the chance to take additional paid time off for those impossible to miss events with LeavePlus (eligibility applies).
  • The borders are finally open and we want to take advantage of that! Whether you want to go back home to visit family, visit friends seas afar, or just be a digital nomad in Bali, you have the opportunity to take your role and work for up to 30 days in another country through our TravelFlex initiative (eligibility applies).
  • Start your weekend early at the beach and ‘wave’ goodbye to full day Fridays! From December until February, enjoy Summer Fridays where we clock off after a half days’ work!
  • Our relaxed, open plan offices have a vibrant and energetic atmosphere. We also have a casual dress-code so you will feel as comfortable in the office as you would at home.
  • Flexibility is important. We offer flexible working arrangements and encourage our people to design a workday that suits them, their team and the wider business. .
  • Love food and coffee? We provide free breakfast and fruit every day and have a barista-grade coffee machine in the office!
  • With weekly Friday drinks, regular events celebrating our diverse cultures and an active social club, Orionites are never short of good times and we pride ourselves on our fun community.
