Film and Literature Board of Review

The Hon Brooke van Velden, the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Minister) is seeking nominations for two positions, one as the Presiding Member (President) and one as a board member, on the Film and Literature Board of Review (the Board).

The Board is a statutory appeal body, established under section 91 of the Films, Videos and Publications Act 1993 to review classification decisions of the Office of Film and Literature Classification. Members are appointed for terms of up to three years and may be reappointed for one further term.

The President must have held a practising certificate as a barrister or solicitor for at least seven years.

Given the Board’s role as an expert tribunal reviewing objectionable publications and material, members must be able to view sexually explicit, violent, sensitive and controversial material without undue distress.
