Mō te tūranga | About the Role
We are seeking an astute Lawyer to join Westpac’s Institutional and Business Banking and Treasury legal team. You will be part of a team delivering high quality legal support and advice across the bank. The role requires you to work closely with a wide range of stakeholders across the business. In this role you will be providing internal legal advice on a wide range of institutional and corporate lending and/or capital markets transactions, including corporate financing, securitisations, project financing, asset financing, sustainable financing, bilateral lending, syndicated lending and club arrangements. This role would suit lawyers with private practice banking and finance experience. Experience in an in house role in financial services would also be beneficial. We are interested in hearing from both senior and intermediate lawyers.

Your stellar legal experience and excellent organisational and interpersonal skills will hold you in good stead. In addition, you will have great communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organisation.

  • Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent) and NZ Practicing Certificate
  • NZ law firm and/or in house banking and finance experience
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
  • Strong technical skills in the work areas identified below, including sound knowledge of:
    • New Zealand banking and securities laws
    • Market standard lending documentation
    • Legislation and regulations impacting Banks including FMCA, AML/CFT, CCCFA and relevant Reserve Bank requirements.
    • General corporate and commercial legislation such as Companies Act, Unfair Contract Terms
